Specialist Psychological Therapy
Psychological therapy for trauma, stress and cumulative exposure
I provide specialist psychological therapy for adults affected by trauma, operational stress, and related psychological difficulties, with particular expertise in police and blue-light work.
My work is grounded in evidence-based trauma treatment and informed by doctoral-level specialism in police psychology, trauma reduction and trauma treatment, alongside six years with a Midlands police service.
"Clear, professional support informed by the realities of frontline work"
Frontline and emergency service roles can place particular psychological demands on the people who do them. Repeated exposure to distressing incidents, sustained responsibility, operational pressure, and the expectation to remain effective under strain can all leave a lasting impact. College of Policing guidance recognises the effects of trauma exposure, constant vigilance, and the risk of psychological exhaustion and burnout within policing.
You may be noticing the effects in obvious ways, such as intrusive memories, disturbed sleep, anxiety, irritability, or emotional exhaustion. Or the impact may be less clear-cut: feeling detached, on edge, mentally overextended, or simply not quite as you were.
Therapy can help you understand these responses, reduce the impact of trauma and stress, and regain a greater sense of steadiness, clarity, and control.
Specialist expertise in blue-light and police psychology
My practice has a particular emphasis on the blue-light services, especially policing.
Alongside my doctorate, I spent the last six years with a Midlands police service, specialising in police psychology, trauma, trauma reduction and trauma treatment. That experience has given me a detailed understanding of the realities of frontline work, including operational culture, cumulative exposure, pressure, scrutiny, and the often complex effects of repeated traumatic experience.
While my practice has a particular emphasis on blue-light and police work, I also welcome other adults seeking evidence-based support for trauma, stress, anxiety, and related psychological difficulties.
Evidence-based trauma therapy
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, an MSc in Forensic Psychology, and a PhD in police psychology, trauma reduction and trauma treatment.
I am qualified in
- Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Trauma (TFACT)
- Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
The NHS lists trauma-focused CBT among recognised treatments for PTSD, and NICE recommends individual trauma-focused CBT for adults with PTSD or clinically important PTSD symptoms.
My approach is calm, clear and clinically grounded, offering evidence-based therapy in a respectful, confidential and professional setting.
Who I work with
I work with adults experiencing difficulties such as:
- Trauma and post-traumatic stress
- Operational stress and cumulative exposure
- Complex grief after trauma or bereavement
- Anxiety and persistent low mood
- Sleep disturbance and fatigue
- Burnout and emotional exhaustion
- Low mood or detachment
- Guilt, shame or anger following traumatic events
- Difficulty adjusting after a critical incident, investigation, or change in role
Although I have a particular specialism in blue-light and police work, you do not need to work in a frontline profession to seek therapy here.
A calm, respectful and clinically grounded approach
Not everyone wants therapy framed in overly emotive or overly familiar terms. Many people, particularly those used to high-pressure professional roles, are looking for something more straightforward: a clear understanding of the problem, a sound therapeutic approach, and treatment that is both credible and useful.
My practice is built on that basis. Therapy is provided in a confidential, professional setting and approached with care, respect, and clinical clarity.
Blue-Light ServicesTaking the next step
If you are considering therapy, an initial consultation can provide an opportunity to discuss what has been happening, what support you are looking for, and whether this feels like the right fit.
