Organisational trauma support, workshops and consultancy
Organisational trauma support, workshops and consultancy
In addition to individual therapy, I offer specialist support to organisations and teams affected by trauma, operational stress, and the wider psychological demands of high-pressure work.
This work is particularly relevant for the blue-light services and other settings in which staff may be exposed to distressing incidents, cumulative strain, sustained responsibility, or challenging operational environments.
The focus is on providing support that is clinically informed, professionally grounded, and responsive to the realities of the workplace.
Services for organisations and teams
I offer the following services on client sites:
- Trauma and Stress Workshops
- Debriefing Support
- Organisational Trauma Prevention Consultancy
- Team and Group Work
Support can be tailored to the needs of the organisation, the nature of the work, and the context in which difficulties have arisen.
Trauma and Stress Workshops
Workshops are designed to help staff and teams develop a clearer understanding of trauma, stress, cumulative exposure, and their psychological effects.
The aim is to provide information that is clear, relevant, and useful, without unnecessary jargon or over-complication.
Depending on the setting and requirements, workshops may cover
- Understanding trauma and stress responses
- Recognising the impact of cumulative exposure
- Hyperarousal, fatigue, burnout, and recovery
- The effect of trauma on concentration, mood, and functioning
- Practical strategies for managing stress reactions
- Creating psychologically healthier working practices
- When and how to seek further support
Debriefing Support
Following distressing or high-impact incidents, structured support can help individuals and teams process what has happened, identify immediate needs, and reduce the risk of difficulties being overlooked.
Debriefing support is offered in a measured and professionally considered way, with attention to the nature of the incident, the needs of those involved, and the wider organisational context.
The purpose is not to impose a one-size-fits-all response, but to provide appropriate support that helps organisations and staff think clearly about next steps.
Organisational Trauma Prevention Consultancy
Trauma prevention is not only about responding after difficulties have become entrenched. It also involves considering how organisations recognise risk, support staff effectively, and create conditions that reduce the likelihood of longer-term psychological harm.
The UK Psychological Trauma Society guidance states that trauma-exposed organisations should incorporate trauma awareness into management, leadership, and team training.
I offer consultancy to organisations seeking to strengthen their approach to the areas listed.
This work may be relevant to leadership teams, occupational health services, line managers, and organisations reviewing their current wellbeing or trauma support arrangements.
Oscar Kilo describes organisational wellbeing support for police forces as practical, scalable, and focused on meeting legal and moral obligations.
Areas covered
- Trauma awareness in the workplace
- Psychologically informed support pathways
- Early recognition of stress and trauma-related difficulties
- The impact of repeated exposure to distressing material or incidents
- Staff wellbeing in high-pressure environments
- Organisational responses following critical incidents
- Developing a more informed and sustainable approach to trauma prevention
Team and Group Work
I also offer structured team and group work on client sites.
This may be helpful where teams have been affected by shared pressures, repeated exposure, challenging incidents, or wider organisational strain. Group-based work can provide space to think more clearly about the psychological impact of the work, strengthen understanding, and support more effective ways of responding.
The format is shaped around the needs of the team and the purpose of the work.
Depending on need, this may include
- Psychoeducational group sessions
- Team-based reflective work
- Support following particularly difficult incidents
- Themed sessions on stress, trauma, recovery, and resilience
- Psychologically informed discussions for managers or leadership teams
An approach informed by frontline realities
My organisational work is informed by a specialist background in police psychology, trauma reduction and trauma treatment, alongside six years with a Midlands police service during my doctorate.
That experience has given me a detailed understanding of the pressures associated with operational work, repeated exposure, scrutiny, and the need for support that is both credible and workable within professional settings.
The aim is always to provide input that is thoughtful, practical, and clinically sound.
Fees
Fees for organisational services are available on application.
Costs will depend on the nature of the work, the location, the length of the session or programme, and the level of preparation involved.
